United Ministries
of Sumter County
Special Projects
United Ministries of Sumter County has incredible support with four projects that really bring everyone together in
our community.
Our Lord does great things when people set their hearts to serve with Him.
He is an amazing provider. These projects are nothing without God!

"S.A.M. Project"  is a project that seeks to be the hands and feet of Christ.  Taking place during the summer,
this ministry will involve repairing homes with the goal of making them safe, dry and secure for those in need.  Potential
homes are selected throughout the year and are determined based on need and an interview process.  S.A.M. project
2010 will run June 6-11, 2010. Click on S.A.M. project above to view a video and find out more about this ministry!

Gear Up For Learning  provides a great opportunity for everyone to get involved in this ministry.
Through “Gear Up For Learning” the community donates new school supplies, and we package them into grade
appropriate kits. We give them to District #2 and District #17 to distribute them to the children that need them. This can be
accomplished due to the generous support of so many people in Sumter. In 2009 we put together 1875 kits and 980
bookbags.WOW!!! Click on "Gear Up For Learning" above for more information.

“The Lighthouse Grill”   is really the only “fund raiser” we do at this ministry. This is so much fun. We
have a building called “The Lighthouse Grill” at the Sumter County Fair Grounds.  During the Fair in October,  we sell
hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks, french fries and much more. With the help of many volunteers, great sales, and combined
with product and financial donations, total sales were $7095.73 for 2009. Click on "The Lighthouse Grill" above to see
pictures, totals, donations, etc.

“Thanksgiving Dinner Boxes”  is a great way to provide people in our community with all the “fixins”
to put together a delicious Thanksgiving feast. More than likely the people that receive them would not be able to spend
the money to purchase the food for a meal like the one this provides. This year (2009) some faithful businesses, many
churches, clubs and individuals supplied all the food to put together 150 dinner boxes for the people in need in Sumter.
Click on "Thanksgiving Dinner Box" above to see information about last year.

“Help An Angel Fly”  is truly amazing to see. We have a large storage area in the back of the ministry and it
will be completely full with Christmas gifts.  We identify people during the year that churches, bible study groups,
businesses, individuals, and clubs can adopt. We gather all the information and they can buy some gifts to put a smile on
the face of people in Sumter. The volunteers helping to load the cars with the gifts are smiling as much as the ones
receiving them. Click on "Help An Angel Fly" above to see more, pics etc...
